A Gift to All Barbershoppers For Mother's Day

2/25/2017

I received by email, a newsletter from Sing Canada.  In that newsletter, was a segment of writing that contained a link by which you could download some music and a learning track for a song called "My Mom".  If my Mom were alive today and a barbershop quartet could sing this song to her, tears in her eyes would be guaranteed.

I downloaded the music and the mp3 learning track, and posted them for your use below, and I copied the part of the Sing Canada newsletter that tells us that this song is being offered as a gift, to all barbershoppers across Canada.

Listen to and enjoy the song using the audio player below, and download and print out the music if you wish, by clicking on the "Download File" to the right, and maybe we could consider learning it.

Canadian men and women Barbershoppers have received a gift from composer, Stephen Rafe, and arranger Bart Van de Mark.  The composer, and the arranger have waived all fees related to their song, "My Mom."
Stephen Rafe is a colleague and friend of JR Digger MacDougall, founder of Sing Canada Harmony.  Dr. Rafe was the 1st chair appointed to head the International Leadership Task Force of the SPEBSQSA (Now Barbershop Harmony Society), on which Digger served as vice chair for 7 years.
Dr. Rafe and Bart Mark wrote and arranged the song, "My Mom."   with the intention of allowing Barbershoppers to perform the song on or before Mother's Day, along the lines of Singing Valentines.

Just as Barbershoppers from all over Canada, share the proceeds of their Singing Valentines performances, Sing Canada Harmony recommends that quartets and choruses performing “My Mom”, consider a tribute donation to Sing Canada Harmony. Please donate at www.SingCanadaHarmony.ca/donate to honour and thank Stephen and Bart for their generosity in sharing this moving song.

Sing Canada Harmony extends gracious thanks to Dr. Stephen Rafe and Bart Van de Mark for their gift to Barbershoppers.

We can be proud, as we watch the following two videos and see the singing faces of Frank Knoll, Orval Allen, Jim McDougall, Ron Smith, and John Gough. I can recognize Wood Hustler and Bruce Green and you guys can probably recognize a few more. Click on the following, highlighted link to view the:

Seniors Chorus Rankings.
As you can see in the rankings, our Ontario's Seniors Chorus got the same rating as Vocal Seniority, but I think Vocal Seniority took first place because of some other technicality. Enjoy the videos.
