Should I Post TAGS?

6/30/2014

I was looking through the latest issue of BHS's The Harmonizer, and when I came to the TAG at the end, I decided to create a Video Version of it so that I could listen to it and find out how good it was.  Here it is:
I made all four parts the same volume requiring only one file rather than four, but if we decide to spend time learning it, we should all be able to pick out our own parts.

Every issue of The Harmonizer has a tag in it and my question goes out to you: Would you like me to publish each issue tag?  Should we get into the habit of learning them and trying them out when we meet or should we continue on doing tags as we have done before?  If you simply want to listen to tags, I have already posed the following link on our Links page:

Playback Speed Control

6/30/2014

A couple of our members have managed to download and install on their computers, the software program called Noteworthy Composer Viewer which is available for free at the following web location:

                     http://www.noteworthysoftware.com/composer/download.htm

This program plays for you the NWC Version files that are available for most songs in the woodshed simply by clicking on the button marked "NWC Version" that is opposite the song title.  Perhaps the biggest advantage of the software, is that you can control the speed of playback of the song.  You can slow it down as much as you want without changing the pitch of the song, which makes it a lot easier to distinguish the notes as you learn your part.

This software is only good for Windows users unfortunately.

"I'll Fly Away" added to site

Today I created Video Versions and NWC Versions of the religious song called "I'll Fly Away" and I uploaded them to the Woodshed.  You can find it on the Religious Songs page or in the "I" Songs page via the Index of Songs page or just click on the highlighted links I have just given you.  Just note that I did not try to put any of the expression into the music score so use it as a quide to learn only the notes and the raw timing of those notes.

On Frank's "Strathroy News and Notes" we were given a list of religious songs to learn for a church singout that was slated for September 28, 2014, but that singout has been canceled until further notice.  Just the same, I am going to re-post that list here so that we can be prepared to sing them.  Just click on either song title to go to it's Video Version page.

Religious Song Added

6/17/2014

Today I uploaded What a Friend We Have in Jesus, which is written as a melody with He Walks with Me, and then I uploaded Go Tell It On the Mountain.  I also set up a dedicated Religious Songs page, with a button on the Shed Entry page to take you to it .  This page from now on, will contain all of the songs available on our website that are religious in nature, and any Christmas songs as well, that are not on the Yuletide Favorites page.  The newly uploaded songs can be found on the new Religious Songs page or on the appropriate Index of Songs page and will be found on the Shows and Singouts page whenever they are part of an upcoming show or singout.

A Website and Apps of interest to us

6/15/2014

The use of computers and the internet is going through a change.  We are moving from using desktop and laptop computers to the use of smartphones, that are just as powerful as the computers that sit on our desks and laps and they reside in our pockets instead. They are always connected to the internet and go with us wherever we go.

I thought that, if it had not already happened, there was a barbershopper somewhere out there, that was going to write an app that can be run on a smartphone to help us learn our parts, so I started a Google search.  It looks like there is nothing available for teaching us whole songs yet but there are a few apps available that teach us tags and I came across them through a website at http://www.barbershoptags.com/.  About 3/4's of the way down on the left hand side of their home page is a list of 5 apps that are dedicated to the teaching of tags.  The only app that is good for my Andraoid phone is called "Tag Master", but for those of you with iphones, all of the apps are good and I suggest that you try them out.

The website at http://www.barbershoptags.com/ is also a good site for all of us, whether we have a smart phone, a computer, or both and I suggest that you all visit the site and fumble around it and try learning how to use some of what is there.  Simply click on the links highlighted in this writing or go to the Links page of our website where the link will be posted.

The Purposes of our Website

6/15/2014

I figure that the primary purpose of strathroyvocalfederation.com, is to help Federation members to learn their vocal parts of a song correctly with greater ease than what they used to experience in the past.  Technology has grown phenomenally over the  past 30 years, so fast that it scarred many of us away from it, but gradually we have learned to relax on thinking of what bad things computers and the internet can do for us as we start feeling and experiencing the good things that are happening because of them.  With our website I strive to show you some of the good the internet and computers can do for us and in turn, help you to relax and use it as a tool to make us a chorus of better singers.

The secondary purpose of our website is to show people out there that we exist.  It tells them about us and encourages them to come to our shows and singouts to hear us sing, which in turn can implant in the brains of men the idea to come and join us in song.
